Small victory.

Trying to find jeans that fit is a constant battle. I think quite a few of us can agree, pants shopping is the worst thing ever (no exaggerating here). The only thing that could possibly be worse?? Trying to find a flattering shorter version that shows more leg: shorts shopping.

Ugh it makes me cringe just thinking about it. Soccer thighs and short, restrictive denim material just doesn't combine well. Ever.

But for some reason I try anyway. Must have! So there I go, trying on countless pairs of jean shorts from all the big stores around here: H&M, Cubus, Lindex, Vero Moda, ONLY etc etc, with absolutely NO LUCK. Plus those babies are expensive! Should I really have to pay more when I'm getting a third of the material that you get in a normal pair of pants? Frustrated, I begin to think that I am just not meant to enjoy the glory of jean shorts in my summer wardrobe when my brilliant friend Iselin suggests the tried and true solution (why didn't I think of this myself?): cut off an old pair of jeans! DUH!

At first I wasn't so stoked on the idea. I don't have any jeans to spare, I thought! But to make her good idea even better, I remembered that I had a bag of clothes downstairs in storage that miraculously included a pair of jeans that just weren't flattering at all (even though they were really comfortable). YES!

And then....
snip
snip
snip:
I made my own shorts! For free! And it was good.
So good in fact, that I am compelled to channel American soccer star Landon Donovan on an equally earth-moving topic after his goal in overtime against Algeria, "It makes me believe in good in the world."

A tip: if you try too, always cut them what seems "too long". You can see above that these are almost knee length. You can always fold them up to make them shorter and of course you can always cut off even more leg after you try them on! But once you cut...there's no going back...

NOTE: Part of the recipe for success here, was crafting the shorts in my bikini and sun glasses while jamming to island music. Yeah mon.

The weather is awesome and I will most likely will be going swimming in the lake...maybe this will lead to more pictures and stories to share...but for now it means that I am over and out!
If this weather continues, I suppose I can't complain too much about working 4 night shifts in a row and not getting to spend any time with Lars! At least I get to soak up a bit of the Norwegian summer before it disappears! :)

Meredith has good ideas.

My one and only college roommate Meredith is pretty awesome at blogging. She is consistent, interesting to read and is always coming up with new, productive and creative ideas!

She was, by the way, an awesome roommate as well. I used to snooze my alarm a gazillion times before getting out of bed and most definitely had a handful of other habits that might very well have driven her mad, but I don't ever remember us once fighting or losing our patience with each other (correct me if I'm wrong Mere) ;).

But anyway, her latest cool idea is "In the Photo Fridays". She noticed that she had been particularly camera shy lately and wishes that she had more pictures of her and her daughter. I think we can all agree that we can sometimes be overly critical of pictures of ourselves! I generally do not struggle with my self image but I did go jeans shorts shopping a few days ago, and well, enough said, right? ;)

That sentiment combined with the fact that I have been a huge slacker lately, both when it comes to posting and taking pictures, urged me to join up (even though I am a few days late)! So here is the most recent picture of me (and Lars)! It was taken Saturday at the Hamar Music Festival!

We had a blast. I will most likely share more about the concert later...that is, if the weather isn't awesome and I'm not swimming in the lake ...

Getting my hands on

We bought an apartment!

I would love to show you what it looks like but I of course do not live there just yet. We will be moving in early August to an apartment\condo that is twice as big as where we live now and perfectly out of town. The apartment is two stories, with a great kitchen, a balcony, a big dining room\living room, an extra bedroom and a bathroom on the second floor (which is our first floor) and the master bedroom and an additional living room in the loft! There are two fireplaces, wooden floors and we even have our own (albeit shared) strip of grass! I'm not sure that it has actually hit me that we have taken this step. We have a new home and it's gorgeous; I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I have also recently got my hands on my very own Norwegian bank card. It came yesterday in the mail!! This means that I can now officially use the money that I have earned! What a concept! I haven't used it yet but am really looking forward to putting in that four digit code of mine and instantaneously zapping money out of my bank account. It's going to be awesome.

Now I am off to a soccer game...us against Otta who is currently leading the league! We should beat them.
We are best
.

(Wish us luck!)
If you can read Norwegian, check out this online article about tonight's game!

Sold!

>> Saturday, June 12, 2010

We Lars has been renting our cozy little apartment since August 2008. About two weeks ago, it got sold.

Yes, folks, SOLD. So that means Lars and I will be moving. And soon. Before August 1st apparently.

It's not as much of a crisis as it may seem; we have been thinking about moving for awhile anyway. We are ready for a new place, maybe a bit more space, maybe a bit longer out of town. But this felt a bit sudden! A fire has really gotten lit under our asses behinds!

We've been to a couple of open houses and are probably going to decide something within the next week or so (I think!)! It's exciting, stressful and surreal all at the same time. More than anything, I am really looking forward to KNOWING where we are going to live for the indefinite future!

The only thing I could possibly be looking forward to more is the England\USA World Cup game that starts in about a half an hour!!! WORLD CUP 2010 is finally here! :D
