Licorice!

I have always liked licorice and I have always associated it with my Dad. When I was a kid he used to buy this huge bag of Red Vine licorice that contained what I believed to be every kind of licorice possible, which was essentially a lot of different shapes, sizes and textures of red and black licorice. I even remember that he would twist together a red and a black vine and eat them at the same time--something I thought was so "Dadish" (gross and cool at the same time).
Later I tried Twizzlers, which is basically still plain 'ol licorice, just with an added plastic taste. :) They introduced me to strawberry flavored licorice. And that was all I knew--Twizzlers and Red Vines.
Licorice in Norway (lakris) | lah.crease | is a totally different story. It seriously blows my mind.I took this picture a couple of weekends ago at a carnival\fair (Hamar Marten) that was in town for a few days in the beginning of October. This is almost half of the licorice stand that was tempting youngsters to spend their kroner and even here you are overwhelmed with flavors: sour blueberry, blueberry, mint, Coca-Cola, tropical, Hubba Bubba (?), raspberry, sour Tutti Frutti, melon and of course salt and super salty licorice.
It's incredible. And salt licorice? Not my favorite...AT ALL...but definitely popular here.
It's a pretty big deal.

Oh man, Norwegian licorice is intense! I myself am not so much a fan of licorice in general. I love Red Vines, but that's about it. Twizzlers make me gag and I didn't much care for the authentic licorice Joe gave me once upon a time. But I'd love to try some of those varieties there... mmm. Cola especially. Pop-flavored candy is awesome.
Yeah - have had the salty kind, and it's definitely a taste which takes awhile to acquire.
The dutch eat..Drop as it's called here by the bucket loads. I can not stand the licorice AT ALL..waaay to salty and tar like..lol It comes with a warning label about your blood pressure rising..lol
Courtney always had interesting licorice that her friend from Denmark sends her. It is almost always really SALTY, but interesting!
